Fabio & D Bridge booked for Liquid Funk - 28th September

Press Release – Liquid Funk – 28.9.2007

Liquid Funk was established 8 years ago to promote Drum & Bass/Liquid Funk music online.  The new Liquid Funk night at the Rhythm Factory aims to deliver the best Liquid Drum & Bass. The focus of the night is to promote new talent and this is complimented by some of the most established artists in the scene.

Being around for over 2 decades, Fabio had acquired legendary status for good reason. Starting his carrer as a Pirate Radio dj in the mid 80's he has gone through genres such as Dub, Rare Groove, Hip Hop, early House, Jungle and Drum and Bass. Its a credit to him that after all these years hes still at the top of his game.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
It all started by accident a local business man by the name of Mendoza decided to set up a pirate station in South London, being a good friend of DJ Colin Dale, a well known Techno DJ, he accidently landed a spot on the station as Colin Dale defected to Kiss fm when it first stated out as a Pirate Station. Fabio remembers on first night being really nervous, but as anyone who knows him well , knows that once he starts talking he cant stop! So the show ended up being a success and he was offered a day time slot on the station.
ACID HOUSE
Once again fate plays a part, when station owner Mendoza needed Dj's to play at an after hours Acid House party he called on two of his Dj's from the station ' Fabio and Grooverider '. Fabio remembers a quiet summer night in June 1988, him and Grooverider had been waiting for hours for this crowd to arrive, at 4am they decided to pack up as they were playing to an empty club, while putting their records away in the boot of Riders car they suddenly saw a group of around 20 people turning up, before they knew it, it was 12 in the afternoon and they were playing to a packed out frenzied crowd! They transformed club Mendoza a quiet after hours drinking spot in Brixton, into the hottest after hours Acid House party in town! So thats how the legends Fabio and Grooverider came together, and this was the start of somthing big because this was the summer of 88'.......
ILLEGAL PARTIES
Fabio and Groove ended up becomeing good friends with local ticket agent ' Dave ', he was a major player who knew all the big promotors and before they knew it they were headlining all the biggest parties that summer. Which inc Biology, Fantazia, Sunrise and Energy. These illegal parties were pulling in crowds of 20,000 + it was def a summer to remember and cemented Fabio and Grooverider as A list Dj's. As we said before all these parties were totally illegal, amazingly they drew these vast crowds without the use of Mobile Phones, Flyers or the Internet, it was all done by word of mouth! It was an adventure as weekly they were being chased around fields by the police! Sadly after that summer the Goverment passed the Criminal Justice Bill which put an end to the Illegal Raves, so Acid House moved into Nightclubs, so this brings us to our next stage.
RAGE
When acid house moved into clubs Rage was one of the biggest nights going. Situated in London famous venue Heaven in Charring X, its was where Colin Favor and Trevor Fung played funky Chicago House to a trendy up for it crowd. Heaven was where the young Fabio first got a taste of acid house in early 1988, where he saw the legendary Paul Oakenfold play and tear the place apart, it was at that moment that Fabio knew thats what he wanted to do! So for him to play at heaven was a massive privilige. Fabio and Groove gained a cult following by playing in the Star Bar upstairs, their big moment was to come when both resident Dj's couldnt turn up one week. They were called in to play on the Main Stage, playing a mixture of New York House and early breakbeat they were an instant success, so much so the Promotor of the night now had a dilema, should he keep his residents or give he new boys in town a chance?! He decided to give Fab and Groove their big chance! Rage transformed into the first Jungle Weekly ever, now playing early Techno with Jungle this was ground breaking stuff. Rage continued to be a huge success until 1993.
SPEED
After Rage for the first time Fabio had a lull in his career, he became disenchanted with the now violent Jungle scene, also Randall, Mickey Finn, Kenny Ken, Gachet and Darren J became big news at Awol. A few years later in 1995 Fabio alongside LTJ Bukem, Sarah from Groove Connection and Leo who was at the time a PR at EMI, decided to host Londons first souldful DnB night. The night was not an instant success the first 3 nights were on a monday and pulled small crowds, after keeping the faith and moving it to a Thursday night within 4 months it became the hottest club for Record Company PR men and Celebs in town. Attended by the likes of Bjork, Goldie, Oasis and even Naseem Hammed got turned away. People turned up from all over the world to cram into this tiny venue in Londons Tottenham Court rd. Fabio and Bukems soulful style of DnB was getting alot of hate amongst the Jungle Massive, but this didnt matter because for a year and a half Speed ran things, but around the corner Goldie was putting together his world famous Metalheads night at Blue Note in Hoxton. Metalheads was dynamic, Goldie had made hardcore trendy again with the likes of Grooverider, Doc Scott, Storm and Fabio himself, Blue Notes sweaty and heaveing Sunday night became the biggest draw in town. Speed made it through one more summer before closeing in the summer of 97'.
KISS FM AND RADIO 1
In the mid 90's Fab and Groove ended up at Londons Kiss Fm, their wed night Drum and Bass show won many radio awards and was one of Kiss's biggest underground shows. Fab and Groove made the move to Radio 1 in late 1999 and have been there to this present day where their show has won and is still winning many awards, inc recently the Drum and Bass award for best radio show at Raveology in Birmingham. Radio 1 has been a major part of their continued success and their show recently has moved to a 12-2am slot every friday. Fabio single handedly pioneered his own genre of drum and bass through his radio show on Radio 1, Liquid Funk. He is also a label boss, his record label Creative Source is coming up to its 50th release, it was also the label that brought Calibre to the world.
PRESENT DAY
Currently Fabio tours the world by himself and also with his long time partner in crime Grooverider, and both are extremly successful Dj's , who continue to love what they do, and rock crowds everywhere they go. Hes always stayed true to the music he loves and has never followed fashion, thus making him a unique and prolific DJ.

If you wanna catch the man himself in action check the events page or Swerve at the End in London every wed.

Fabs would like to thank all the people who have followed him and supported him over the years.

D Bridge

Exit Records is the fruition of a lifetime goal for D-Bridge. Exit came about as a result of Darrens desire to be able to express his own individual qualities as a producer, rather than being a contributor to a greater whole. Embarking on a solo effort seems like a natural progression for Darren, who through the success of Bad Company UK, Spacek and more recently with Istickz has managed to create a diverse and inspirational release catalogue of enviable proportions. Along with further releases planned on Exit in the later part of 2005, there are also several solo efforts out on high-profile labels including Liquid V "China Blue/True To The Craft/Better Dayz", Soul:r "Without Answers/Loves Ugly Child", Creative Source "Something To Hide/Belief, Bingo Beats "The Monochrome EP" and Metalheadz "True Romance/Bellini"
